This article is about Mafia II, which is a video game that was released in 2009. It's sequel to the 2006 game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, and takes place in an alternate history of the United States. A third game in this series called Mafia III has been announced, but will not be released until at some unknown date. Mafia II has received generally favorable reviews from critics, with an aggregate score on Metacritic of 80 out of 100 based on 39 reviews. Some reviewers praised its cinematic storytelling and open-ended gameplay whilst others criticized the outdated graphics and uninspiring side missions. The game received two awards at E3 2010 including "Best PC Game" and "Best Debut".
